Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And you, [O Muhammad], are free of restriction in this city - 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
