And when the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt. 63 "We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth. 64 So set out thou with thy house hold in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs, and let not one of you look back, and pass whither ye are commanded. 65 We issued this command to him, for they were going to be destroyed in the morning. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 "And do not disgrace me. Have some fear of God." 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said: Here are my daughters, if ye must be doing (so). 71 By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly. 72 and thereupon the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them at sunrise. 73 Thus did We turn it upside down, and rained down upon them stones of what had been decreed. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 Indeed, it is on a way which still exists. 76 Indeed in this are signs for the believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood [i.e. the people of Madyan (Midian) to whom Prophet Shu'aib was sent by Allah), were also Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.). 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
