Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
