The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 They do not expect any reward 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
