۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: 'Truly, you and your fathers are in clear error' 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. It was He who created them and I testify to this fact". 56 I swear by God I will do something to your idols when you have turned your backs and gone." 57 So he smashed them up to pieces with the exception of the biggest, so that they may turn to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." 60 They said: "Then bring him before the eyes of the people, that they may testify." 61 They said, "Abraham, was it you who did this to our deities?" 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
