The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and banana trees, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the right. 38
