The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 tearing away his skin! 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 and in whose possessions there is a due share, acknowledged [by them,] 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
