Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains how they have been established? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
