The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
