The Spoils of War (Al-Anfaal)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ THEY WILL ASK thee about the spoils of war. Say: "All spoils of war belong to God and the Apostle." Remain, then, conscious of God, and keep alive the bonds of brotherhood among yourselves, and pay heed unto God and His Apostle, if you are [truly] believers! 1 true believers are those whose hearts tremble with awe at the mention of God, and whose faith grows stronger as they listen to His revelations. They are those who put their trust in their Lord, 2 Who establish prayer and who expend of that wherewith We have provided them. 3 Such people are indeed true believers. They have high ranks with their Lord, and forgiveness for their sins and an honourable sustenance. 4 Even as your Lord caused you to go forth from your house with the truth, though a party of the believers were surely averse; 5 They disputed with you about the truth after that had become evident, as if they were being driven to death with their eyes wide open. 6 And lo, God gave you the promise that one of the two [enemy] hosts would fall to you: and you would have liked to seize the less powerful one, whereas it was God's will to prove the truth to be true in accordance with His words, and to wipe out the last remnant of those who denied the truth 7 That He might justify Truth and prove Falsehood false, distasteful though it be to those in guilt. 8 When you were calling upon your Lord for succour, and He answered you, 'I shall reinforce you with a thousand angels riding behind you.' 9 God has sent this glad news to comfort your hearts. Victory is in the hands of God alone. God is Majestic and All-wise. 10
