The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virginal, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
