The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 but We see it near. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
