The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
