۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 And verily, on that Day they all will share in their common suffering. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 In gardens of delight, 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 a goblet from a spring shall be passed round to them 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then they will turn to one another, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 'Do you believe in the Day of Judgment? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 Then he looked down and saw him in the midst of hell. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
