Those who believe say, 'Why has a sura not been sent down?' Then, when a clear sura is sent down, and therein fighting is mentioned, thou seest those in whose hearts is sickness looking at thee as one who swoons of death; but better for them would be 20 obedience, and words honourable. Then, when the matter is resolved, if they were true to God, it would be better for them. 21 Then if you turn away, you are likely to spread corruption on the earth and sever your ties of kinship. 22 Such are they whom Allah has cursed, so that He has made them deaf and blinded their sight. 23 Ponder then they not on the Qur'an, or are on the hearts locks thereof? 24 Indeed those who turn back after the guidance had become clear to them – Satan has deceived them; and made them optimistic of living for ages. 25 This, because they said to those who are averse to the faith that Allah has revealed: “In some matters we shall obey you.” Allah has full knowledge of their secret parleys. 26 But how will they fare when angels will take their souls at death and will carry them, striking their faces and backs? 27 That will be because they followed that which angereth Allah, and hated that which pleaseth Him. Therefor He hath made their actions vain. 28
