The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
