Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
