The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 And by the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
