The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 so he cried out to his Lord, saying, "I am overcome, so help me!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
