The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
