The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise, and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
