By the moon, 32 By the receding night 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning to mankind, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 about the guilty ones: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 "And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly." 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 "Till death overcame us." 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And they will not receive admonition unless Allah wills; He (Allah) is the One, deserving that mankind should be afraid of, and should be dutiful to Him, and should not take any Ilah (God) along with Him, and He is the One Who forgives (sins). 56
