The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
