He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
