Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 And thy Lord cometh, and His angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
