The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 He who purifies it will prosper, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
