The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 when the stars shall scatter away, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 for what sin she was slain, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 and when Hell is set ablaze, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 The planets withdrawing into themselves, 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 Verily this is the word of a most honourable Messenger, 19 Full of power, well-established (in position) with the Lord and Master of the Throne, 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 Your companion is not one possessed: 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 And he is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 Where then are you going? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 And you will not, unless (it be) that Allah wills, the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 29
