Just recall the time when your Lord said to the angels, "I am going to appoint a vicegerent on the Earth." They humbly enquired, "Are you going to appoint such a one as will cause disorder and shed blood on the Earth? We are already engaged in hymning Your praise, and hallowing Your name". Allah replied, "I know what you do not know." 30 And He taught Adam the names, all of them; then He presented them unto the angels and said, 'Now tell Me the names of these, if you speak truly.' 31 And they said: "Glory to You (O Lord), knowledge we have none except what You have given us, for You are all-knowing and all-wise." 32 Said He: "O Adam, convey unto them the names of these [things]." And as soon as [Adam] had conveyed unto them their names, [God] said: "Did I not say unto you: Verily, I alone know the hidden reality of the heavens and the earth, and know all that you bring into the open and all that you would conceal?" 33 And recall what time We said unto the angels: prostrate yourselves before Adam, they prostrated themselves, but not Iblis; he refused and was stiff-necked and became of the infidels. 34 To Adam We said: 'Dwell with your wife in Paradise and both eat of it as much as you wish and wherever you will. But neither of you should come close to this tree or else you shall both become transgressors' 35 But satan made them slip therefrom and caused them to depart from that in which they had been. 'Go down,' We said, 'be enemies to each other. The earth will provide your dwelling place an enjoyment for a while' 36 Thereafter Adam received certain words from his Lord, and He turned towards him; truly He turns, and is All-compassionate. 37 We said, “Go down from Paradise, all of you; then if some guidance comes to you from Me – so whoever follows My guidance, for such is neither fear nor any grief.” 38 But they who disbelieve, and deny Our revelations, such are rightful Peoples of the Fire. They will abide therein. 39
