He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
