Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the dawn 1 And ten nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 the people of the huge columned city of Eram 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
