The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why dost thou not bring the angels unto us, if thou speakest truly?' 7 We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved. 8 It is We who sent down the Koran, and We watch over it. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 Even so we make a way for it in the hearts of the culprits. 12 So, they will not believe in it: The example of former people is there. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would say: Our sight is wrong - nay, but we are folk bewitched. 15
