The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So, (O Prophet), persevere with gracious perseverance. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
