The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And the moon as she follows in his wake, 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
