And said the chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people and belied the meeting of the Hereafter and whom We had luxuriated in the life of the world: this is no other than a human being like unto you; he eateth of that whereof ye eat, and he drinketh of that which ye drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 He is but a man who hath fabricated against God a lie, and in him we are not going to be believers. 38 The Messenger prayed, "Lord, help me; they have called me a liar". 39 Allah said: after a little while they will become regretful. 40 The blast justly struck them and We reduced them to rubble. Away with such wicked people! 41 After them We produced other generations 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Then We sent Musa and his brother Haroun, with Our communications and a clear authority, 45 to the Pharaoh and his nobles. But they behaved proudly and thought themselves superior people. 46 They said, "Should we believe in two mere mortals who are like ourselves and whose people are our slaves?" 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and gave them shelter on a peaceful hillside watered by a fresh spring. 50
