The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord glorify 3 and purify your clothing, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
