(Firon) said to the chiefs around him: Most surely this is a skillful magician, 34 who wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery. What, then, do you advise?" 35 They said, "Let him and his brother wait a while, and send heralds into the cities, 36 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer. 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 And it was said to the people, “Have you (also) gathered?” 39 (They said): Aye, so that we may follow the wizards if they are the winners. 40 So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Fir'aun (Pharaoh): "Will there surely be a reward for us if we are the winners?" 41 He said: "Yes, you will then become those near-stationed to me." 42 Moses said to them, 'Cast you down what you will cast.' 43 So they threw down their ropes and their staves and exclaimed, “By the honour of Firaun, indeed victory is ours!” 44 Then Musa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all the falsehoods which they showed! 45 so the sorcerers were cast down, prostrating themselves, 46 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 The Pharaoh said, "You believed without my permission? He seems to be your chief who has taught you magic. But you will soon know (the result of what you have done). I shall certainly cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and crucify you all together." 49 They said: It is no hurt, for lo! unto our Lord we shall return. 50 "Only, our desire is that our Lord will forgive us our faults, that we may become foremost among the believers!" 51
