The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
