The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 And when the hills are moved, 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 And when souls are united, 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what sin she was killed, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped, 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 And when Paradise is brought near. 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 The mighty, the honoured in the presence of the Lord of the Throne. 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 And your companion is not insane. 22 And without doubt he saw him in the clear horizon. 23 And he is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 for whosoever of you would go straight, 28 And you do not will except that Allah wills - Lord of the worlds. 29
