Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 enter My Paradise! 30
