A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
