The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 it will be a hard day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
