And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 but when he came to them with Our signs, they ridiculed them, 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 They said, "Magician, pray to your Lord for us through your covenant with Him (If he saves us from the torment), we shall certainly seek guidance". 49 Yet no sooner did We take away the affliction from them than they broke their pledge. 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: 'O my people, do I not possess the kingdom of Egypt, and these rivers flowing beneath me? What, do you not see? 51 Or am I better than this man, who is contemptible and scarcely makes things clear? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 Thus he made light (of the matter) to his people, and they obeyed him. They were certainly wicked. 54 So, when they had angered Us, We took vengeance on them, and We drowned them all together; 55 and We made them a thing past, and We appointed them for an example to later folk. 56
