These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the left - how wretched are those on the left! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And they used to say: What! when we die and have become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 "They will all be gathered together - on the appointed time of the known day." 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Consider the fire that you strike. 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
