The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 These will be the ones who fulfil their vows and dread the Day whose woe shall be spread far and wide; 7 And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, 8 They say to them, “We give you food, only for the sake of Allah – we do not seek any reward or thanks from you.” 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
