He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 olives, dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
