The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the heavens and that which comes in the night! 1 How will you comprehend what the night star is? 2 (It is) the Star of piercing brightness;- 3 There is not a soul but over it is a keeper. 4 So man must consider from what he has been created. 5 He was created of spurting water 6 Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs, 7 Surely He (the Creator) has the power to bring him back (to life). 8 The day all secrets are examined 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the sky (having rain clouds) which gives rain, again and again. 11 And [by] the earth which cracks open, 12 Indeed the Qur’an is a decisive Word. 13 and is not to be taken lightly. 14 Verily, they are but plotting a plot (against you O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)). 15 and I am cunningly devising. 16 So leave the unbelievers to themselves; respite them awhile. 17
