[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
