He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
