And We have certainly created you, [O Mankind], and given you [human] form. Then We said to the angels, "Prostrate to Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He was not of those who prostrated. 11 Said He, 'What prevented thee to bow thyself, when I commanded thee?' Said he, 'I am better than he; Thou createdst me of fire, and him Thou createdst of clay.' 12 (Allah) said: "(O Iblis) get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced." 13 He said, “Give me respite till the day when people will be resurrected.” 14 He said: Surely you are of the respited ones. 15 he answered: 'Because You have caused me to go astray, I will waylay them as they walk on Your Straight Path, 16 then I shall come on them from before them and from behind them, from their right hands and their left hands; Thou wilt not find most of them thankful.' 17 'Begone' said He, 'despised and outcast. (As for) those of them that follow you, I shall fill Gehenna (Hell) with all of you' 18 'O Adam, inherit, thou and thy wife, the Garden, and eat of where you will, but come not nigh this tree, lest you be of the evildoers.' 19 Then Satan whispered to them that he might manifest unto them that which was hidden from them of their shame, and he said: Your Lord forbade you from this tree only lest ye should become angels or become of the immortals. 20 And he swore to them, “Indeed I am a well-wisher for both of you.” 21 So he brought them down with deception; and when they tasted from that tree, their shame became manifest to them and they began attaching the leaves of Paradise on themselves; and their Lord said to them, “Did I not forbid you from that tree, and tell you that Satan is an open enemy to you?” 22 They said: Our Lord! We have been unjust to ourselves, and if Thou forgive us not, and have (not) mercy on us, we shall certainly be of the losers. 23 Allah said: get ye down, one of you an enemy unto another; and for you on the earth there shall be a habitation and provision for a season. 24 He said, “You shall live there and there shall you die, and from there only you will be raised.” 25
