Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And chosen goblets. 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
